The brief was to create a design inspired by the integration of the 8 key collaborative groups housed under the AGI umbrella.
Al Ghurair Investment is a multi-national organisation located in over 20 countries on 4 continents. As one of the largest and most diversified industrial enterprises in the Middle East, they have contributed to the now internationally recognised landscape of Dubai. Acoulite was asked by the renowned San Francisco-based architect firm Gensler (http://www.gensler.com) to collaborate on the lighting design with them for this prestigious project.
The brief was to create a design inspired by the integration of the 8 key collaborative groups housed under the AGI umbrella. Intersecting lines were subtly incorporated into the lighting design, symbolizing the companies’ individual paths, which come together in harmony. The Arabic lattice style of Mashrabiya was also utilised to give an angular yet classical feel to the design. In order to give a unique feeling to the space lighting controls were utilised to create a variety of preset scenes. LED ribbons and aluminium profiles were used in the boardroom, with decorative suspended luminaires installed in feature areas of the project to create visual interest
To create a sense of space it was important to use clean architectural lines. To enhance this space natural light was used to its full potential, which gave a depth of space and encouraged a positive and productive working environment. To give a natural and balanced lighting atmosphere, recessed down lighters were used, both fixed and adjustable types with recessed linear profiles.
A mock up was created before work started, as the linear lighting that the architect had requested was not initially designed for the type of ceiling it was going to be installed in. The mock up ensured that the installation would firstly work and have the desired effect, which it did.
This project was very much a collaborative effort with Gensler and Acoulite working together with the MEP Consultant Chapman Bathurst (http://www.chapmanbdsp.com), who assisted with the lighting and product selection. The on site coordination was carried out by Acoulite’s technical support team and the installing contractor.
