Using recessed lighting to maximum effect.
Dubai-based restaurant designers LW Design enlisted the help of lighting and acoustics consultancy Acoulite on their latest project at the new Seafood Restaurant, Catch, in Abu Dhabi. Based at the Nation Riviera Beach Club, the exclusive beachfront retreat adjoins the five-star St Regis Hotel.
A chic venue that boasts stunning views of the waterfront from its ground floor restaurant and terrace bar. Royal Catering, the owner of Catch, commissioned LW Design who collaborated with Acoulite to develop a bespoke lighting concept.
The design concept giving a nod to the UAE’s maritime heritage. Pared back design plus the wide use of a colour palette consisting of whites, creams and metallic, worked together with the lighting solutions to give a clean, contemporary finish.
Extensive use of recessed linear lighting gave a sleek feel with lights being fitted below the indoor and outdoor bars as well as around columns. Spotlights were strategically placed and recessed between the wooden ceiling beams. The restaurant’s maritime theme acknowledged the UAE’s pearl diving heritage; referenced by the use of custom-made, decorative lobster pot-styled pendants suspended above the bar as well as on the terrace and stairwells. Lighting solutions were also used effectively for the wall to wall backlit wine cellar on display; creating a distinctive and stylish feature for guests.
