The Fairmont hotel chain is a leader in the hospitality industry and as such the quality of the design and lighting had to be carefully considered. The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is located on the Creek in Abu Dhabi, it is host to state of the art facilities, including a conference centre and it has an expansive 1000 m2 lobby. Acoulite was hired to provide lighting solutions for the entire hotel, including the restaurants. The brief was to make the hotel more suitable for the local Middle Eastern Market, whilst at the same time maintaining a similar design intent to the original concept from Asia.
This was a budget driven project and it was essential that we remained on cost. We collaborated with the interior designer Julia Dempster from Interior Motive. The interior design was upmarket chic, with elements of chrome and black, Acoulite’s lighting design reflected and embodied this style and colour palette.
Acoulite supplied all the internal lighting, custom designed lighting and technical lighting layouts; at the time this was our largest project at over 8 million AED.
There were over 50 different custom products designed and supplied by Acoulite throughout the hotel. Across the ceiling of the lobby there was an LED colour changing stretch fabric, suspended from this were Flos Zeppelin decorative chandeliers resembling clouds lit with a cool glow. The bedrooms had flexible LED leather clad reading lights; along the walls were chrome and black twig lights, which gave a modern appearance to the rooms. Whilst the corridors were lined with pleated glass wall sconces for a cozy atmospheric appearance.
This project worked well because of the successful collaboration between Acoulite and the interior designer, which created a final seamless look that fitted within the budget and brief of the client.
