Established in the 1970s, HBK is one of the largest contracting companies in Qatar; working in construction, engineering and real estate. HBK’s real estate division was moving into a brand new 2000 m2 office and Acoulite was recommended to the client by the Qatar-based fit out contractor Belle Harvey (http://www.belleharvey.com) to provide the lighting design.
The original concept design had already been done by HBK and Acoulite collaborated with them in proposing and selecting the materials and lighting, which most closely integrated with their visuals. Acoulite recommended feature lighting, provided directly from Santa Cole (http://www.agi-architects.com), and assisted with the installation and technical support. It was vital that the materials selected were readily available and fitted within the specified budget. HBK required that the lighting aesthetics were specifically tailored to the different areas of the office: differentiating between the back of house office areas and the VIP and executive areas.
Together with Belle Harvey’s onsite team and the client’s own contractors, Acoulite was present to supply and install the lighting and lighting control systems. The back offices were closed with 60×60 fittings; they required a cooler 4000k lighting tone. For the VIP and executive offices, we selected a warmer 3000k tone, these were the most suitable and created the atmosphere desired by the client. Acoulite also provided and commissioned an advanced Philips Dynalite (http://www.lighting.philips.com/main/products/lighting-controls/dynalite.html) lighting control system for the boardroom.
As the project went forward, Acoulite was required to respond to client and contractor requests and a few changes were added to create the perfect bespoke look. Acoulite’s proactive and creative attitude to problem solving impressed the client, with HBK Real Estate delighted with the end result, which was completed beyond the client’s expectation.
